O2 partnered with Zayo Group to roll out nationwide fibre to support increasing demand for 4G services.

As part of their continued investment in their network services O2 have signed a 15 year deal with the Zayo Group to build and manage a fully resistant core fibre network throughout the UK. Utilising existing fibre networks that run from Glasgow to Sailsbury with 19 connectivity points throughout the UK, this new infrastructure will enable O2 to accommodate the increasing demands of their expanding customer base.
This increase in demand marks not only the increasing coverage offered by O2’s rapid 4G rollout but the increasingly digital portfolio of their customer base. Offering significantly more than just calls texts and data O2 have recently launched a whole platform of dedicated business apps that enable smarter working on the move country wide.
“With the O2 4G network now covering over 260 towns and cities and half of the UK population, there has been unprecedented growth in the amount of data traffic transmitted across the network,” said Adrian Di Meo, Chief Technology Officer for O2. “A year after the launch of our 4G network, it has already carried a total of 5,400 Terabytes of 4G data, which is the equivalent of eight million hours of HD video”. Dedicated to he position of reliable services Di Meo continued “Deploying high capacity core fibre is essential when faced with this increase in data traffic and the resilience and reliability of our network is important for customers,”
