iPhone 6s unexpectedly shuts down? You could get a free battery replacement from Apple

Apple has conceded that certain models of the popular smartphone have issues with batteries and have offered free battery replacements.

Defective iPhone 6s handsets have been reportedly shutting down despite seemingly having sufficient battery to continue operating. Acknowledging this as a technical fault with a limited amount of the iPhones 6s’s produced within a certain period, they were keen to stress that unlike the ill-fated Samsung Note 7 this fault did not represent a safety hazard. In a statement issues on their website Apple stated;

“Apple has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015.

If you have experienced this issue, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have your device’s serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.”

This replacement is for the battery unit only and thus is not available through your mobile phone provider. It is also important to note that it does not extend the limited warranty of the handset, although the battery replacement programme does cover affected iPhone batteries for three years after the initial retail sale date.
