Turning office furniture into the gift of sight

When letting specialists Leaders moved their head office to new premises earlier this year, they decided to give some office furniture that they no longer needed to us.

When letting specialists Leaders moved their head office to new premises earlier this year, they decided to give some office furniture that they no longer needed to us.

In turn, we made a donation of £500 to Sightsavers, a registered charity based in Haywards Heath which works to combat blindness in developing countries, restoring sight through specialist treatment and eye care.

As a result, the office furniture has been turned into an amazing and invaluable gift - the gift of sight. Says Sightsavers’ Sussex Development Manager, Jade McShane: “Thank you to Cellular Solutions and Leaders for their generosity. This donation will fund up to 29 cataract operations and will help to transform the lives of people like Rony in Dhaka."

“Rony first developed trouble with his eyesight when he was four and his condition worsened over time as he developed cataracts in both his eyes. Sadly his family, despite their best efforts, could not afford the sight-restoring cataract operation he needed, so they were delighted when they were told that he could receive treatment thanks to the support of Sightsavers. Just a day after his surgery, Rony had transformed from the quiet little boy he had been before; laughing and joking with the friends he has been unable to see to play with a few days earlier."

Sightsavers point out that 75% of all blindness is preventable or curable and often only at a minimal cost. For someone who is blind, having their sight restored is the greatest gift of all as it can also give them back their independence.

Sightsavers has been chosen as one of the beneficiary charities for this years Comic Relief.
